The Projector invitation

OK, so the projector invitation is one of mystical legends - well not really, but it definitely leaves some projectors confused.

Originally a lot of the material out there simply stated that as a projector you should “Wait for an invitation”, and of course because of the nature of projectors, you heard this and had a ton of questions like;

  • But what does an invitation look like?

  • How long should I wait?

  • If I wait, I’ll have to wait forever

  • What if no-one invites me?

  • If I accept every invitation, won’t I end up exhausted?

So let’s break it down.

First of all let’s scrap the negative connotation of the word ‘wait’. Waiting doesn’t mean that you just sit at home forever until perhaps, maybe, someone comes to find you to invite you.

Yes, as a projector you are here to be invited, but the waiting piece is only there to help you understand that you are leaning back and not running around initiating a whole bunch of stuff.

What is far more important in the invitation for a projector is RECOGNITION. Without this you may jump into invitations that are not truly for you and your talents but for anyone at all.

As a projector you are here to be the guide, the leader. You are highly intelligent and have many skills and talents. You, my projector friend, should never be the bottom of the pile or a second thought - and that’s why the recognition piece is so important.

So what does it look like to be recognised?

This can look like (or can be a feeling) that the other see’s you, wants you and recognises your skills, talents and energy. It can be no other, it is you they want.

Let’s run through a true invitation with the recognition piece in place.

Hey Sarah, I love how you coach and teach, you have such a great way of delivering information. I’d love you to come and teach {insert subject} to my women’s group next week

Now let’s look at an invitation without the recognition.

Hey Sarah, I have an empty slot next week for someone to teach a class. I’ve asked a couple of others and they can’t do it, do you want to do it?

Can you see the difference?

Both are invitations, yet only one is truly correct because it includes the recognition piece.

Without the recognition often it can be an indicator that the projector will end up feeling bitter (because they were never truly seen). And we all know as a projector that bitterness sucks!

I hope this helps next time you are invited. And remember - to make a true decision, pass it through your authority first before you say Yes or No.
